I am not a politician and have never aspired to be a politician. I was relaxing at the beach this summer when my good friend of many years texted me out of the blue, “You ready to run for the House of Representatives?”
I thought he was kidding, but it turns out--he wasn’t. I had been discontent with and worried about what was happening in our government for a long time, and I began to realize that if I wasn’t willing to step up, who would? How could I complain about our government leaders if I wasn’t willing to do something about it. As I asked myself hard questions and listened to the concerns of others, I began to understand that there were no good reasons for me to stay silent and plenty of reasons for me to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
While I am new to the political arena, I bring some qualities that I think matter. I care about people—not politics. In fact, this is so important to me, it is the slogan for my campaign. I listen more than I speak. I believe in solving problems through communication and common sense. I believe integrity and respect matter in every facet of life including the political arena.
I am running as an Independent candidate because I am tired of partisan politics. I believe we are all sick of the constant finger pointing, labeling, and blaming that both sides seem to be doing these days. It is difficult to accomplish anything if everything is always someone else’s fault. I don’t care if you are red, blue, purple, or pink with orange polka dots—I want to work for our towns, our district, and our state.
As an Independent, I am not beholden to any party or special interest group. I am free to listen to your concerns and to make decisions that benefit our communities as a whole, not a particular party.
As your representative, I will focus on issues that matter most to the communities of District 60. Education is at the top of my list. We need to ensure that our schools are funded properly, that our teachers are supported, and that our children have access to the resources they need to succeed. It seems there are some in office that don’t care about rural school districts & their importance to small towns. I assure you that I do.
The next issue that is of great importance is Farming and Rural Economics. When I think about the small towns and rural landscape of District 60, I think first of our farmers. These families, who have been farming for generations, deserve a fair shot at making a living. Costs keep climbing while prices and demand for crops remain far too low. Government policies and other factors have caused the markets to sink to historical lows. Due to this, emergency subsidies and bailouts are now needed. Looking to the future, I know our farmers aren’t just asking for handouts. What they want is a fair playing field—one where they can keep their costs down, compete, and sell their crops at a fair price. We also need to continue to grow our communities by investing in small businesses to help them remain competitive and to nurture new industry.
A third issue that I am focused on is Healthcare. For a community to thrive, it must have strong and accessible healthcare. That begins with affordable health insurance and prescription drugs. Many rely on Medicare and Medicaid, and these programs must be protected and strengthened—not weakened. Too many rural clinics and hospitals are closing. I know firsthand how broken our health care system can feel. As the primary caregiver for my husband during his battle with cancer, I spent hours navigating insurance red tape. No one in America should have to choose between their health and financial survival. In a nation as great as ours, it is unacceptable for life-saving care to be out of reach for so many.
In the election of November 2026, you will have a clear choice. You can vote for the same old politics, or you can choose a new direction. I am committed to finding practical, effective solutions to address the challenges ahead. I ask for your support in this election, and I promise to work hard to earn your trust. I firmly believe that WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER! We have more in common than we have differences!
